Every once in a while we will offer Phoenix members exclusive invites as a thank your for your membership. So, if you are a Phoenix member, join us in January for the 1st Phoenix Whole30 campaign. Kicking it off with an informational clinic Saturday, Dec 27, 10am, because as a valued training group member, personal training or coaching client we are deeply invested in your health and fitness and we want to offer you this exclusive wellness clinic.

It’s that time of the year when many of us have let go of the focus on training and eating right in favor of a little mental break before we head into another season of training and racing. This letting go is good practice that we highly recommend, don’t get us wrong, but there is still a real element of wishing we could feel the peak of our summertime training bodies as we remember what if felt like to be fitter and cleaner inside. It would make it easier to head back into training if our insides felt better. We all fall into habits that we have a hard time breaking, but know that we need to break before we can be our best.

We think many people can relate to this on some level. I’m getting normal sleep, but why do I feel so tired all the time? Or the opposite, why can’t I ever sleep? We’ve heard this one a lot…I’m running or biking more consistently than I have ever so why can’t I lose weight? Personally, I have spent the bulk of this Fall under enormous stress and have fallen into really bad stress eating (and drinking) habits. I find myself in pain daily that is currently keeping me from exercising at all. This is an inflammatory response to my stress level and extremely bad habits, so I have to take a 5-day steroid to get the inflammation under control. I believe I could have avoided this with better food choices.

These scenarios can be so related to mixed up hormones and systemic inflammation that it’s an incredibly daunting task to clean ourselves up. We need some help getting to a good reset place. There are a lot of cleanses or reset diets out there to kickstart a better path of eating, but The Whole30 is one that Doug and I have connected with for a few years. Every year about this time we take on the challenge of cutting typical inflammatory food sources from our body and eliminating sugars and processed foods. This always helps us evaluate our relationship with the foods that we eat and the reasons that we are eating them and there are always over-the-top positive results.

This is a challenging 30 days, so it is always best to have support for the most positive experience. There are about 4 of us committed to going through the program together starting January 2nd. There will be an opportunity on Saturday, December 27th at 10am to come hear about past experiences, ways to manage the strict processes, how to food prep for efficient and convenient eating, and to bond with the group you could be participating with.
